Oiled Oak Floors

Oiled oak flooring: Oiled oak floors have been in use for many decades and oiled oak flooring is a common and more traditional type of wooden flooring finish, which can be seen throughout the world. The beautiful look can be attributed to the natural oils which are used for the flooring. Brushed and Oiled Oak Flooring is achieved when steel brushes are used to open up the surface of the wood by brushing in the direction of the grain to remove splinters, after which the wood is oiled. It is easy to care for with a brush, or vacuum cleaner on the hard floor setting.

There are many types of solid oak flooring available; for example the smoked, brushed and grey oiled solid oak flooring has a popular grey finish to blend into any room, there is aged, rustic flooring with natural oil which gives a traditional natural appearance and brushed and oiled solid oak flooring finished in black oil, giving a rich dark colour.

Moving onto engineered flooring, this has basically had a little more 'engineering' in the manufacture and is therefore suitable for areas such as cellars and conservatories where there is danger of moisture. The smoked, brushed and grey oiled flooring is also available 'engineered', as is the aged and rustic and the black oiled.

There is a little more choice in this category to include 'distressed' flooring which gives an authentic aged character to the wood, as can double smoked, which shows the grain of the wood in a pleasing manner. Because 'oiling' is a traditional practice, oiled flooring and brushed and oiled oak flooring can look very much like sanded and restored floorboards - without all the hard work!

Please be aware that lacquered flooring has significant differences in looks than oiled oak flooring. For details on how to correctly look after, please view our oak flooring blog
